kids fishing derby!
Saturday, March 28 10am-2pm @ YCIC!
Join us for a fun, beginner-friendly fishing event for kids at the Yakima Canyon Interpretive Center, featuring educational and activity booths, fishing derby, and fish-cleaning station! Co-Hosted by KEEN, Kittitas County Field and Stream Club, and the Leavenworth Fisheries Complex! Kids will learn basic fishing skills, explore the pond, and enjoy a day outside focused on fun, learning, and first catches.
No experience needed and all supplies provided — just bring your sense of adventure!

We’re excited to welcome your family to Hooked on Nature: A Kids Fishing Derby at YCIC on Saturday, March 28, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM! Here’s how the day will run:
Attend only the time you signed up for:

10:00–11:00 AM – Youngest anglers 4-7

11:15–12:15 PM – Ages 8–11

12:30–1:30 PM – Ages 8-15
1-Hour Fishing Rotations:
Each child will have one hour at their fishing station to cast, catch, and have fun. Volunteers from KEEN, USFWS, TU, and KCFS will be on hand to assist, teach, track, and cheer the kids on. Please check-in when you arrive.
Fun Prizes Every Hour:
Awards include biggest fish, most fish caught, first fish, and fun bonus prizes. Participants may also be entered into the Grand Prize drawing for a free week of KEEN summer camp for K-5th grade kiddos!
Other Activities:
Explore booths and hands-on activities hosted by local conservation and fish-related groups. Be sure to get your passport stamped for special prizes! Parents/Guardians can take a walk in the park while kiddos are fishing. No pets please!

What to Bring:
Weather-appropriate clothing, water, snacks, sunscreen, and a great attitude! Please feel free to bring your own fishing supplies if you like, but we will have rods/hooks/bait for everyone.
Where to Park:
Please follow these directions and the signs & volunteers when you arrive. The main parking lot is ONLY for those with mobility issues.
This is a fun, beginner-friendly, low-pressure event—perfect for first-time anglers and experienced kids alike. We can’t wait to help your child make their first “catch” memories!
