KEEN Environmental Education Internship Program

The Kittitas Environmental Education Network (KEEN) is proud to launch the KEEN Environmental Education Internship Program, providing students with meaningful, hands-on experience in outdoor education, habitat restoration, environmental science, and nonprofit leadership.
This isn't an internship spent behind a desk.
Our interns teach children to discover the natural world, restore native habitats, collect scientific field data, lead outdoor adventures, develop environmental curriculum, and help build stronger, more connected communities.
Working alongside experienced environmental educators, interns become part of KEEN's mission to inspire stewardship through immersive outdoor learning experiences in the shrub-steppe, wetlands, forests, and rivers of Central Washington.
*these are unpaid internships, but KEEN will work with your faculty supervisors or teachers to secure school credits.*
KEEN Nature Academy Internship
Gain hands-on experience in outdoor environmental education by supporting KEEN Nature Academy for children ages 8–11. Interns help lead nature-based lessons, field investigations, games, and hands-on science activities while learning how to engage young learners in an outdoor classroom. This is an opportunity to build teaching, leadership, curriculum, and environmental interpretation skills while inspiring the next generation of nature stewards.
KEEN Outdoor Fridays Internship
Help bring science to life outside! Interns support KEEN Outdoor Fridays through hands-on field science, ecological investigations, nature exploration, and environmental education for children ages 8–11. Students gain experience with field-based learning, data collection, outdoor instruction, and science communication while working alongside KEEN educators in the Central Washington landscape.
KEEN EcoExplorers Internship
Help middle-school youth discover their confidence and curiosity outdoors. EcoExplorers interns support weekly outdoor adventures, environmental projects, field science, stewardship activities, and leadership challenges for youth ages 11–16. Interns gain valuable experience in youth mentoring, outdoor leadership, environmental education, and group facilitation while helping young people develop a deeper connection to the natural world.
